PEI Modern Quilt Guild May 2019 Meeting

Well folks, it's almost the end of May and warmer temperatures have finally arrived!! Some of us have been busy in our gardens and flower beds, but hopefully we have all found some time for quilting!!

Susan and Heather are getting excited to attend Quilt Canada in the coming weeks, and we can't wait to see all the lovely photos on their return.

We are so pleased to announce that Roberta has won a Quilt Canada Viewer's Choice Rosette for her "Gravity" quilt during the "Quilting Forward" exhibit at Eptek Art & Culture Centre

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Eptek for hosting the show and look forward to coming back for many years.

The PEI Modern Quilt guild is pleased to announce the following workshops by Andrea Tsang Jackson of 3rd Story Workshop:  Transparency & Gemstones

and Our Swan Song will be held in October 2019. Exact details will follow, so be sure to check back if you are interested in these exciting class opportunities.

This years' Colour of the Year are Kona "Splash" and "Living Coral'. The PEI Modern Quilt Guild is thrilled to be participating in a COTY postcard swap with the Moncton Modern Quilt Guild, and will be having a mini postcard workshop at our next Sew-In in June!!! It's going to be a lot of fun!!

For our 2nd round of Block Lotto, we had the "Raspberry Kiss" block submitted by Linda. This month's winner was Janice!! (who ironically won the last Block Lotto too!!) She now has more than 90 blocks to call her own, and should probably consider buying a real lottery ticket!!

Velda's "Wonky Trees" are the next Block Lotto blocks and are due at the June meeting. Will Janice win them too??

Dianne, our charity coordinator as been busy collecting Quilt of Valour "Log Cabin" blocks. 130 blocks will be going to Quilt Canada with Heather in June, which is more than enough for 2 quilts!!

We also have a few dozen Green Heart Blocks that will be heading to New Zealand. For more info be sure to check the Angels in Gumboots Facebook page.

We are more than half way through the Medley Medallion Quilt Along!! Blocks 6 and 9, the Half Square Triangles were due at this month's meeting and the winners were Lucinda and Velda!!! Thank you to this month's In House Sponsors ~ Liz and Colleen for offering Gift Certificates for LongArm services!!

Next month's Medley Medallion Blocks focus on Curves. Cathy demonstrated the Drunkard's Path Block, and shared some of her tips and tricks. Freezer paper templates and using curved rulers for cutting make these blocks a breeze!!

If you are interested in the Medley Medallion Quilt Along the blocks are published in Issues 25-30 of Make Modern digital magazine.

Show & Share

Heather was first up and shared some of her experiences surrounding her trip to the Middle East. She shared these stunningly gorgeous textiles which she purchased in Oman and Jordan. They were very different in style and texture but both beautiful!!

She also wanted to share her version of the Fabric Box that Linda demo'ed a couple months back. Honestly these boxes are so cute and a lot of fun! you should try it out.

Lastly, Heather shared a new Quilt Box subscription from Atelier Fiber Arts including a really nice selection of modern fabrics.

Janet also had a Fabric Box to share which she embellished with trinkets that were purchased by Heather and Cathy in Nashville at QuiltCon. It's so cute!!

Cathy shared her "Harlequin Twist" pillow sham. Quilted using a combination of walking foot and a ruler foot.

Roberta shared two applique'd runners. The first one features Snowflakes,

The second one Reindeer. The Batiks and the laser cut applique are simply stunning.

Leigh Anne brought her "Trees" quilt to share with the members who didn't get a chance to see it at the last Sew-In. She actually managed to get all the quilting done in one Sew-In!!

She also shared this adorable "Flower Shop" quilt. Made almost entirely from the Blueberry Park fabric line. Can you spot the one that isn't?

Our newest member Linda, brought some of her applique. I think her pieces are fantastic. Can you believe she considers herself a novice?

She also shared this great tot bag made using fabrics from a fun bus trip to Nova Scotia!!

Lastly, Susan shared her assortment of Stonehenge fabrics, and block kits.

and some of the digital printed panels, she has purchased recently during her travels.

This one even came with 3-D glasses!!
