PEI Modern Quilt Guild April 2019 Meeting

April showers bring May flowers.... Well then we should have a beautiful bloom filled Spring, LOL. As some of our members traveled to warmer climes, the rest of us have been watching the snow disappear, in hopes of warmer temperatures and longer days.

Our Vice president Velda, welcomed 13 members to the April meeting. We discussed the "Quilting Forward" exhibit taking place at Eptek Art & Culture Centre in Summerside, which has received lots of praise from the community. The exhibit will be on display until May 10th, so if you haven't had a chance to go and see it, you still have time.

We are getting very excited about hosting Andrea Tsang Jackson of 3rd Story Workshop, for a Trunkshow and 2 workshops. The members in attendance voted for their choice, and after the remaining members have their say, we will be able to make the announcement. Whatever classes are selected, it's going to be an awesome weekend!!

Dianne, our charity coordinator, collected the Quilts of Valour blocks during the meeting and we have 113 and counting.

She also collected 112 heart blocks for the "Healing Hearts for Christchurch". Information about this charitable endeavour can be found at the Angels in Gumboots Facebook page.

Members: Please be sure to make arrangements to get any remaining blocks to Dianne by the May 12th Sew-In.

This month we have been making Block 5 for the Medley Medallion Quilt-Along. Here are some of the completed blocks...

Jean was the lucky winner of a 25$ Gift Certificate from this month's Sponsor: Fabric Crafts & More. Congratulations, Jean!!

Cathy demonstrated the Eight at a time HST method due at the May meeting. A super quick method for making Half Square Triangles, really fast!!

Velda presented the next Block Lotto block: Wonky Trees, using a tutorial by Diary of a Quilter. Unfinished size: 7" x 9".

The draw for the "Raspberry Kiss" Block Lotto blocks will be postponed to the May meeting. (Now there's time to whip up a few more, for an even better chance to win!!)

This month's Show & Share was short but sweet...

Dianne rescued this hand pieced Drunkard's Path quilt top from the local thrift store Value Village. The piecing was perfection.

Roberta, shared an almost finished wall hanging. "The Beach is My Happy Place" just needed a few more stitches to finish the binding.

Lucinda shared some fabric boxes that she made from Linda's demo a few months ago. More than a few members have been having fun making these!!

She also had some new fabric purchases to share which will supplement her Low-Volumes.

Cathy shared her completed Queen sized "Harlequin Twist" quilt. I love those bright colours!!

PEI Modern Quilt Guild April Sew-In

Happy Easter, I hope everyone has the chance to get some extra sewing in this holiday weekend!!!

Last Saturday, that's exactly what some of our members had the chance to do. We had 8 members gather for a fun day of sewing, which is a pretty good turn out considering we had some members on vacation, and 2 members at Retreat!! Stay tuned for some photos of their successful weekend!!

Dianne was having fun making jelly roll race quilts using donated scraps.

Here's one already finished!!

Leigh Anne was quilting a wall hanging. She actually got it finished too!! I love the design and bright colours!!

Linda was making Lilla blocks for next year's raffle quilt. These are really interesting, I can't wait to start laying them out.

Janice has been keeping busy with the 52 blocks in 52 weeks challenge.

Jean shared her Avant Garde fabric bundle. She has finally selected the "Jewel Drop" pattern, and is ready to start cutting!! It's going to be gorgeous!!

She also spent some time making Block 5 units for the Medley Medallion Quilt Along.

Gail is working on this beautiful Sashiko pillow. It is absolutely stunning.

Lucinda was making "Raspberry Kiss" blocks. These blocks are due at the April meeting for Block Lotto. Who's going to win them all?

Next up was some Purple blocks for Lucinda's "Ice Crystals quilt"

Janet has been making green heart blocks for "Healing Hearts for Christchurch" . Information about this charitable endeavour can be found at the Angels in Gumboots Facebook page.

Lastly Cathy started her "New Wave quilt" by Libs Elliot, which she picked up during her trip to QuiltCon 2019 in Nashville.  I look forward to seeing it grow .

Show & Share

Jean shared her stunning "Long Time Gone" quilt. Jean had fun hosting a Quilt Along with some of her friends throughout Canada and a few members of the PEIMQG.

Velda had a couple quilts to show. The "Improv Primer" by Amy Ellis is an excellent example of Improv blocks.

and the group absolutely loved her "My Sister, My Friend" quilt. Can you guess which face represents Velda??

Maritza made use of some of her purchases from her PEIMQG Spring Retreat road trip to "Sew Blessed Quilters". The "Emilia" quilt by Robin Pickens is Layer Cake friendly, and absolutely gorgeous!!!

Helen has also been busy since the Spring Retreat. We got to see a bit of this quilt come together into a block. The finished quilt top is so pretty!!! Love the black swan too!!

Here is the back too. I love it!!

I think it's safe to say that Heather is a huge Tula Pink fan!! She couldn't resist getting some of the newly released "Pinkerville" collection and a fun pattern too!

Lastly, Roberta had a few things to share. "Sweet Dreams" is just perfect for a baby quilt.

The backing works perfectly too.

The Counting Sheep quilt is another adorable baby quilt using a panel to perfection!!

The backing is super snuggly!!

A fun pillowcase for her trip to Florida...

This quilt kit was a super find, on sale too!! Who could resist?
