PEI Modern Quilt Guild and Cheryl Arkison

The PEI Modern Quilt Guild had the privilege to host Modern Quilt Designer, Author, Fabric Designer and Teacher Extraordinaire.... Cheryl Arksion!!

She began her visit to PEI, Thursday evening with a Trunkshow. Cheryl kept us entertained with stories of her adventures and experiences from her quilting journey. I appreciated her fresh approach to improv quilting and her advice on taking advantage of the small moments of time in one's life to be creative. Here are a couple of my favourite quilts from the evening...

The Trunkshow was fantastic, and I encourage anyone who has the chance to attend one of Cheryl's shows, to do so.

On Friday, Cheryl taught her "Values Plus" workshop. Members were asked to sort their scrap fabrics into 3 piles: Lights , mediums, and darks. With the help of our cell phones and the grey-scale feature of our cameras, it was much easier to see the difference in values.

Here are some photos taken throughout the day...

Here is a shot of my blocks in grey scale,

and in color....

Cheryl's last day in PEI, was spent teaching her "Make Words, Not War" workshop. After Cheryl showed us different examples of Improv letters, we were encouraged to play and have fun. The group was very creative, there was so much variety.

Here are some photos from earlier in the day..

And a little later,

and lastly, a group shot of what the group accomplished. Sew much fun!!

PEI Modern Quilt Guild October 2018 Sew-In

October is well under way. While some people were enjoying the respite from the recent rain by working outside (raking leaves and enjoying some sunshine), 9 members of the PEI Modern Quilt Guild came together for a day of sewing and binding, with lots of laughter and fun!!

We are getting super excited about our upcoming visit from Cheryl Arkison!!  The PEI Modern Quilt Guild is hosting a Trunkshow on Thursday October 18th.  We will have door prizes and tickets for our raffle quilt available too.  There will be 2 fantastic workshops on Friday and Saturday (October 19th -20th). It's not too late to join us for any of these fun events.  Just contact us at peimqg@gmail.com.

Dawn was in MINI mode making log cabin blocks for her class sampler for the upcoming community school. She made some excellent progress today!!

Roberta was working away on these adorable book blocks. "Book Nerd" is a quilt pattern that any bibliophile would love to have.

Our newest member Leigh Anne was a rockstar!!! She was able to piece this entire lap quilt top in one day. I love the Christmas fabrics, we were all drooling over her scraps!!

Janet really worked out of her comfort zone, with her Colour of the Year Mugrug!. It looks fantastic Janet!!! She was able to quilt and bind it throughout the day.

Heather was up to her elbows in the QuiltCon 2019 Charity challenge!!

Here is a sneak peak of the quilt top so far. It is really beginning to come together!!

Linda was binding her "Parterre" quilt. I will show you a photo of the back, but save the front for when it is finished. Be sure to come back to see it in November, it is a stunner!!!

Cathy spent some time marking her "Harlequin Twist" quilt. She is having lots of fun using her walking foot in the negative space.

Janice was working on her "Patchwork Barn" blocks.

She was also able to work on the binding of this adorable "For Harrison" quilt.

Here's the back as well, sew cute!!

Dianne was working on this flannel rag quilt. It will be a gift for a first time grandmother to snuggle baby in!!

We all had a great time together, and we even got some sewing accomplished!! We'd love for you to stop by and visit with us.....
