PEI Modern Quilt Guild August 2018 Meeting

This month Heather welcomed 13 members and 1 guest to the meeting. I think the nice weather and summer vacations kept a few of our members away...

It is exhibition time here in PEI and in so many other places. The PEI Modern Quilt Guild entered our 2018 QuiltCon Charity quilt "Starburst Blossoms"into the Old Home Week Exhibition and won 1st place in it's category!!!

This quilt has been donated to Sobeys West Royalty in support of Children's Wish Foundation. Sobeys will be hosting several events in the coming weeks, so be sure to stop by and buy a ticket for a chance to win this gorgeous quilt!!!

For program this month, Colleen and Dawn demonstrated the " One seam Flying geese method". This technique results in 3D geese units. Sew fun!!

Dawn shared her "One Fish, Two Fish" quilt made using this technique.

We are getting very excited about our upcoming visit with Cheryl Arkison! The PEI Modern Quilt Guild is hosting Cheryl for a Trunkshow October 18th (7 - 9). She will be teaching 2 workshops too!! October 19th is her "Values Plus. and October 20th is "Make Words not War".

If you are interested in the Trunkshow ($5) or the workshops, please send us an email for more details -  peimqg@gmail.com.

Lastly for Show & Share...

She also shared this cute "Favorite Things" baby quilt, backed in flannel - Sew snuggly!!

and "Labyrinth Walk" is just gorgeous!!

She also recently won this FQ bundle of Kona solids on Facebook. Who doesn't love free fabric!! Can't wait to see where they end up...

Heather shared some fun paper pieced bird blocks. She has been playing with the 2018 Colours of the Year (COTY) which are Tiger Lily and Ultra Violet.

She has also been playing with rope bowl techniques. Looks like fun!

Velda also shared this lovely mug rug, using the 2018 COTY. The PEI Modern Quilt Guild is doing a Mug Rug swap with the Renfrew County Modern Quilt Guild. We can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!!

PEI Modern Quilt Guild August 2018 Sew-In

This Summer's temperatures have been unusually hot for Prince Edward Island. With almost 3 weeks of record temperatures and humidity, it was a relief to many, to finally see the temperatures drop after some big thunder showers. The weather in the coming weeks will still be warm, but more like what we've come to expect on the Island.

With the weather finally breaking, I think a lot of our members chose to spend some time outdoors, But a few of us got together for a fun day of sewing, and socializing.

Lucinda has been continuing her efforts to complete some UFO's (Unfinished Objects). This "Gift of Peace" cross-stitch is really coming along!!

Heather has been working on her "Quilter's Planner" magazine sampler.

Dawn was making curved flying geese borders for her "Morse Code" quilt. I can't wait to see it completed!!

Janice was seeing Blue!! She has been working on her "Patchwork Barn" Block of the Month by Edita Sitar, which was featured on "the Quilt Show".

Linda was doing some cutting and had these cut Cotton + Steel fabrics to share. Love those selvages!!

Cathy was playing with bonus HSTs (Half Square Triangles), from her upcoming "Make Modern" Skill Builder Quilt-Along.

Jean stopped in and stayed for bit too.

We had a lovely day together!! We always welcome visitors too, so stop in the next time we have a meeting or Sew-In. We'd love to see you.
