Heather welcomed 17 members, and took a moment to acknowledge the new line up of Executive officers. Velda and Janet are the newest members of the team, and we are excited to have them join the PEIMQG Executive.
We also had a couple members step down from their Executive positions. Colleen - we look forward to seeing you at the meetings when you can join us, and Susan - even though you have moved to Ontario to be closer to family, you will always be one of us, and we hope you can come visit us sometime.
A new year brings new ideas and adventures!! Dianne has arranged for members to make Log Cabin blocks for Quilts of Valour. She passed around kits and instructions to get everyone started. Be sure to visit the CQA website for more information.
Another great Quilts of Valour project is the "Hugs across the Nation", for more info and some free quilt block instructions, click here.
Liz had some exciting ideas for Swaps and challenges this year! We will be having another Colour of the Year (COTY) guild swap. This Year's colours are really nice. Pantone's Living Coral and Kona Splash, are going to be so much fun to play with!
We will also be participating in a "Van Gogh" inspiration challenge, exciting right? You'll have to wait until the September meeting to see the results.
Heather and Cathy are getting excited about their trip to QuiltCon 2019. They will get to see the PEIMQG's charity quilt challenge on display while they are there. Stay tuned for photos of the Show and maybe some of the fun they have while in Nashville next month.
The PEIMQG is getting excited for the 1st Annual Spring Retreat held at Our Lady of Hope Retreat Centre. We still have a few spaces left, but they are filling up fast!! Contact Heather for more details peimqg@gmail.com.
The members of the PEIMQG will be having fun with the "Medley Medallion Quilt-Along". Block instructions can be found in Make Modern magazine beginning with Issue 25 and every 2 months until completion. The PEIMQG will be Quilting-Along in the coming months, with the goal of completing their quilts for the January meeting Show & Share.
Here's Cathy demonstrating Block 1 & 2.
Show & Share
Liz has been very productive over the holidays. Here's her completed "Sewing Mends the Soul" wall hanging, a project started at the Cheryl Arkison Improv Letters workshop.
She also shared her pretty "Variegated Threads" quilt from the Krista Hennebury workshop from 2017. Great finishes Liz!!
and this super cute "Mini Necessary Clutch wallet".
Heather has been having fun with her Trend Tex challenge. The theme this year was "#trending". It will be displayed at Quilt Canada and auctioned off
Here's her beautiful Queen Bee "Paper clip" quilt. It combines linen and cotton to add interest and texture.
The quilting was beautifully done by member Colleen Henderson.
and the fun use of some Tula Pink sugar skulls on the back is perfection!!
Velda, shared this awesome Block Book. The cover is a self portrait!! The inside has pages of batting, which holds her WIP (Work In Progress) blocks in place without shifting.
Roberta shared this adorable baby quilt featuring embroidered blocks.
Here's the backing.
She also made several of these casserole carriers for gifts this past holiday season. It's almost too pretty to use!!
and some matching hot pads..
Jean shared a quilting hack with the group.. Replace your regular spray starch bottle with a special one from a salon supply store. Resulting in a finer spray that doesn't leave big drops and uses less, saving you more!!
Cathy shared her Tula Pink "Pom Pom" quilt kit, and everyone enjoyed petting the pretty, pretty fabric!
Leigh Anne shared this gorgeous "Glamp Stitchalot Medallion" quilt, and her experiences at the Pink Castle Fabrics "Glamp Stitchalot Retreat". It sounds like a lot of fun, and we can see why she keeps going back. Here's Janet admiring the stunning fabrics!
What a fantastic meeting and start to 2019!!
