This month Heather welcomed 12 members to our monthly meeting. We have been having so much fun working on the QuiltCon 2019 charity challenge quilt. We are getting together this Saturday to see how close we are to completing the quilt top.
We would like to remind our readers that the PEI Modern Quilt Guild will be hosting Cheryl Arkison for a Trunkshow and 2 workshops October 18-20. We still have a few spots remaining!!! It's not too late to reserve your space. For questions or details contact us at peimqg@gmail.com.
For this month's program, Cathy was demonstrating "Walking Foot Quilting". She shared some of her tools and tricks to get started...
Here she is focused on stitching in the ditch, quilting dot to dot.......zig - zags, curves, and echo quilting.
Ta-Da! Here is the finished product.
The PEIMQG is participating in a Color of the Year - Mug Rug swap with the Renfrew County Quilt Guild. Some of our members have already completed theirs and turned them in to the coordinator. For those members still working on theirs, please bring your completed Mug Rugs to the October 18th Trunk Show, or make arrangements to have them to Liz before October 18th.
There's less than 2 months left to buy some Raffle Tickets to support the PEIMQG. The draw date is November 22nd, 2018. If you would like to purchase some tickets, please email us at peimqg@gmail.com.
The guild has decided to have a Block Lotto beginning in 2019. As homework, we asked the members to submit Modern Quilt Block ideas at this month's meeting to select the Block due for February. For all members wanting to participate, the instructions for the Block will be handed out at the November meeting or can be found on the Members only Facebook page. Make as many blocks as you want from now until February's meeting. The more blocks you make, the more chances you have to win them all!!
December Potluck Orphan Block challenge:
We are having a Orphan Block/ Brown Bag challenge swap at our end of year Potluck party. Every member will be given a Brown bag containing an orphan block. Your challenge is to make something using that orphan block. Cut it up, add to it, make it something fun!!! Mug Rugs, pin cushions, table toppers, the possibilities are endless!!! Be creative and have fun!!! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.
Lastly, we had Show & Share:
Lucinda had some fun shopping on a recent trip to Ontario. Here are some of her fabric finds...
She also recently finished this "Island Chain" lap quilt for her sister.
Here's the flannel backing.
Linda challenged herself to use some batiks in her stash, and this is what she accomplished!!! She quilted this wall hanging herself using Variegated thread.
Helen made this quilt for her daughter, who is a Grade 1 teacher in Calgary. As a fun activity for the kids, the children in her class and volunteers selected fabrics to represent each province/territory.
Here is a close up of some of the fun elements within the quilt. The quilting was done by Colleen Henderson.
Velda's first quilt of the night is going to appear in the upcoming January issue of "Make Modern" magazine, so all I can show is the back for now. " Which way is Up" is a fun, modern quilt using a combination of low-volume backgrounds with pops of bright colours. It is just gorgeous!! It will be worth the wait!!
Her next quilt is a sampler quilt with a modern layout, using blocks that Velda has selected from her personal designs and some found online as well.
The back showcases some of the leftover blocks that didn't quite make it on the front. The quilting was done by Liz Dempsey.
Roberta has been having fun making gifts for her 2 year old Grandson. This reversible apron is just so cute!! Tractors on one side ...
Cows on the other.
This reversible play mat is perfect for a little boy and his cars. One side features a road map to follow.
The other side has a search and find, featuring cars.
This sweet "Let's go Camping" lap quilt was quilted by Velma Pinnsoneault.
This one's my favorite.
and the label is just too cute.
Jean had some Needle Punch projects to share. "Crazy Cat" is perfection!!! I love that she chose that shade of green.
These poppy pins are so sweet. They are finished just beautifully. Great job Jean!!
Heather shared this quilt top inspired by the "Quilter's Planner" Sampler Quilt 2108. Her more modern version is reminiscent of an upside down ribbon!! So cool!!
Heather also shared her "Throwing" quilt top using True Blue fabrics by Zen Chic. The pattern is Charm square friendly!! Really Stunning.
That's a wrap for another great meeting!!
