PEI Modern Quilt Guild June 2018 Monthly Meeting

The weather in PEI this Spring/Summer has been pretty cool. It's pretty strange to have temperatures hovering around zero in late June. All that is coming to an end as the temperatures and humidex will soar in the coming weeks. The fields and gardens will surely benefit from warmer temperatures. Lots of us quilters take advantage of cool rainy days and spend time in our sewing rooms. We have lots of photos to share this month so grab a beverage, sit back and enjoy!!!

Heather welcomed 14 members to the meeting this month.

We are continuing our efforts to sell raffle tickets for this Gorgeous quilt. If you are interested in purchasing tickets for a chance to own this lovely quilt, please feel free to contact peimqg@gmail.com for details. The draw will take place in November 2018, so it would be a perfect Christmas present. We are also more than happy to ship anywhere in North America.

This month for Program, members were asked to bring in their earliest quilt (in their possession) and their most recent. It was a fun way to showcase everyone's journey. We have all come so far!!!

Liz's earliest quilt is about 18 years old. It is a "log cabin" quilt.

Her most recent quilt was the recently completed PEIMQG Mystery quilt.

Lucinda's earliest quilt is her Dresden Medallion quilt from 7 years ago.

She also shared her latest "Morse Code" quilt top.

Gail's earliest quilt is 27 years old. She made this quilt for Christmas 1991.

Her latest finish is this stunning "Painterly Flowers" quilt nicknamed her "SADD" quilt, because it helps chase away those winter blues.

Linda's earliest quilt is 30 years old. A Chevron baby quilt!!

Her most recent finish is this modern "Patchwork City" quilt. She really stretched her comfort zone with her use of color and fabric placement.

Janice's first quilt is 40 years old and was a baby quilt for her daughter.

Her latest quilt is another baby quilt using "Elizabeth Hartman's - Bjorn Bears" and scrappy churn dash blocks. Her Free Motion quilting is incredible!!

Janet's earliest quilt dates back to 1993. It is an Eleanor Burns design. It is tied instead of quilted.

Her most recent finish is this gorgeous Stack-n-whack quilt. Quite a journey- from subtle tones and hues to bold graphic large scale flowers in rich saturated colors.

Dawn's earliest quilt in her possession is 15 years old. It was also the first quilt that daughter Colleen, used her Long Arm machine to quilt in the borders.

Her latest finish is another excellent example of the PEIMQG Mystery Quilt-Along. It also shows her daughter Colleen's Long Arm quilting journey as well.

Velda's earliest quilt is 14 years old. It shows her love of curves from a very early stage.

Her latest finish is the super fun "Tic-Tac Tango".

Here's a close-up of one of the blocks.

Dianne's journey began in 1979, at the time she hated quilting!! But in 1993, she gave it another go and made this "Rail Fence" quilt.

Her latest quilt finish is this English Paper Pieced "Mosaic Stars" quilt.

She also shared her ongoing "Garden Pavers" EPP project. Needless to say she loves quilting now!!

Roberta's earliest is a Quilt-as-you Go "Eleanor Burns" design, circa 1997- 2006.

Her latest finished quilt is her "Passages quilt". Custom quilting really compliments the geometric elements of this quilt.

Jean's quilt dates back to 1981. Her "Blue & White sampler" used the popular-at-the-time "VIP" fabrics. It is completely hand-pieced and hand-quilted.

One of her latest finishes is her "Patchwork City" quilt. Several members had fun making this quilt (although, not everyone has theirs finished *chuckle*). Jean's example showcases fun fussy-cut fabrics and rainbow colors on a grungy background. Fantastic!

Cathy's very first quilt was a joint effort with her Mom. dating back to the late 90's. They used peel and stick floor tiles as a template for cutting the fabrics, and scissors to cut out the simple squares. Minimal hand quilting holds it together.

Cathy's latest quilt finish, is the soon to be published "Harlequin Twist" quilt. It will be appearing in the July 2018 issue of Make Modern Magazine. It was expertly custom quilted by member Liz.

Heather's early quilt example dates back to 1996. It was machine pieced and hand quilted. The popular "Log Cabin" quilt is well loved.

Her latest quilt is a group effort by "The Bee Hive" group. 12 women from across Canada made blocks for each other throughout the year (a couple of years ago). The "Double Star quilt" features fussy-cut centres in multiple colors. Heather was also quite happy to have Tula Pink autograph some of the blocks featuring her fabrics!!

What an awesome journey we have all experienced!!

Liz was pleased to announce that we will be doing a mug rug swap with the "Renfrew County Modern Quilt Guild". The theme is the 2018 colors of the year - Kona Tiger Lily and Pantone's Ultra Violet.  The Mug rugs are to be 6" x 10". I can't wait to see what we all come up with, it's going to be lot's of fun!!

Last up for the evening Show & Share!!

Cathy shared a fun zippered bag she made using her scraps from the 2018 Summer Sampler (Road Trip).

She also shared 3 comfort quilts completed for her Cousin and her Cousin's daughters. The backs of each quilt feature some T-shirts to cherish in the years to come.

Roberta shared this cute pillow, using a panel.

and 3 adorable quilts for her granddaughter. "Hipster Cat" is just too cool.

Another kitty themed quilt - this so sweet.

Lastly this girly, pink quilt uses a panel. It will be perfect as she gets older.

Dianne shared her "Folded Star" hot pad.

She also shared this battery operated lamp, perfect when you need a little extra light.

Linda shared her fun square bottom bag. Love those Laurel Birch fabrics!!

Lucinda shared this cross-stitch sample. She is working on completing some of her older WIPs.

She also shared her version of the PEIMQG Mystery Quilt. She really had fun with her layout. Chopping blocks and rearranging them into this incredible design. Excellent job!!

Liz has been busy making bags and clutches. This tote/clutch combo uses cork fabric and linen!! she has also been having fun making decorative zipper pulls and key fobs. Sew pretty!

Heather's recent trip to Quilt Canada was a lot of fun!! she had the pleasure to bid on and win the following pieces from the "Trend Tex" challenge.

Here is "A Strippy Celebration" by Carol Greenhalgh.

"Celebrating our Marriage" by Andrea Boyd-White.

And "Wicapi Omani" A tribute to Gord Downie by Georgia Andrews. A beautiful tribute!!
