2020 President's Block Challenge - You decide who wins the viewers' choice award!

Help us choose the viewer's choice winner!

Fifteen members accepted the 2020 President's challenge, using the Kona and Pantone Colours of the Year (COTY) - Enchanted and Classic Blue and Fibonacci sequence. 

The brief:

Leonardo Pisano Fibonacci (1170–1240 or 1250) was an Italian number theorist. He introduced the world to such wide-ranging mathematical concepts as what is now known as the Arabic numbering system, the concept of square roots, number sequencing, and even math word problems. The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where a number is the addition of the last two numbers, starting with 0, and 1. The Fibonacci Sequence: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55 , etc.  Fibonacci sequence in nature is given by the number of petals of flowers. Most have three (like lilies and irises), five (parnassia, rose hips) or eight (cosmea), 13 (some daisies), 21 (chicory), 34, 55 or 89 (asteraceae).

  

The following rules for the challenge were in place:

 

• Theme:  Can include one, two or all of the three themes as follows - Covid-19; 2020; 5th Anniversary

Stretch your modern creative muscles!

 

• Blocks are made with solid colours only and use the COTY colour provided somewhere in the block.  

      

  Can use as many solids as you wish.  The solid COTY fabric is Kona.  You may use any brand of solid colour to include in your block.

 

  Fibonacci dimensions will be used for this challenge.  Blocks can include the following widths or lengths but no smaller than 5.5" square or larger than 21.5" square.

As an example, you could have a block that was 5.5"x13.5" or 8.5" by 21.5" or any other combination of the four measurements noted above.

 

  You can use any technique to make your block: improv or straight piecing, machine appliquĂ©, etc.

 

• You can use a pattern or make a block of your own design (using the dimensions noted above).
