Heather J started the meeting by discussing several items.
The June 11th Sew-In (9am -4pm)-
Is being held at "High Tide Retreat & Studio" just outside Summerside. This is going to be a potluck lunch. Any questions-please get in touch peimqg@gmail.com
Quilt Donations for Fort McMurray-
Anyone wishing to donate a quilt, we have made arrangements through Susan and her son to make sure they get where they need to be. Please arrange to bring the quilts to the June sew-in so that Susan can have them shipped all together. (Thank you Susan for offering to cover the shipping costs for this worthy cause!)
PEI Provincial Exhibition Quilt Show-
Anyone wishing to enter quilts into the show, the applications must be received at the Women's Institute on or before July 26th. Members discussed other upcoming quilt show opportunities.
Book, Blog and Fabric-
For Book, Heather J brought in "Modern Selvage" by Riel Nason http://www.rielnason.com/
Lovely examples of Cotton & Steele, Lizzy House, Elizabeth Hartman and more...
For Blog, Cathy discussed the PEIMQG blog and exciting new ideas for future projects.
Queen Bee-
April's Queen Bee Heather received these beauties.... Any beemates not at the meeting please bring Heather's blocks to the June Sew-In or meeting.
May's Queen Bee was Dianne, and she has asked that we supplement the donated blocks we received previously so we can put together another charity project.
The construction of the blocks is simple... just cover a 13"x13" foundation with strips, any colors, any fabrics, just cover a surface at least 13" square, these will then be sliced and diced into the completed scrappy blocks. The picture below shows the backside of the foundation paper. THESE DO NOT NEED TO BE TRIMMED!! Leave the excess hanging over the sides as shown. Dianne will trim them down when she slices them. What fun, use up those scraps ladies!!! Please bring the completed blocks to the June meeting.
Program-
Susan has come up with some program ideas for the upcoming year, but she still wants us to think of Ideas for workshops and techniques for future meetings. We also have learned that we may have some guest speakers this Summer/ Fall.
We are working with Dianne Shink about a visit to talk about her aprons.
More on this at future meetings.
Here is Susan explaining some of Diane Shink's talents. You can find out more about her here:http://www3.sympatico.ca/dimacquilt/home3.html
We are all looking forward to extra workshops in the future.
SWAPS-
Liz has coordinated a FQ swap for the coming months. June's FQ swap will be "Kona Solids". We have 13 members signed up for the swap, (to see detailed info on this swap, please see the swap tab in the members only section). Each participating member must bring in 13 Kona solid FQ's. they can be whatever assortment you want to bring, all the same color, all different, whatever you choose but you must bring in 13 to be shared amongst the group. Please bring them to the June meeting in a Ziploc bag with your name written on the outside, You will get your own bag back with 13 assorted FQ's. FUN! Any questions please contact Liz here or on the FB page.
We had a solid FQ draw and Heather C was the lucky winner!
Susan also brought in a sample of some of her infinity scarves and had a draw where the winner got to choose. Here I (Cathy) am modelling my chosen scarf. Congrats to all the lucky winners!!!
Lucinda brought in several projects, a super cute tote bag she finished after last sew-in.
Lastly her amazing quilted bag, Is it big enough Lucinda??? Fantastic piecing!!!
Next up was Dawn and her Meals on Wheels placemats, so bright and cheery!!!
Janice, one of our newest members brought in her MOW placemats, Love the matched set!
Jean has started her Patchwork City project....
This is the progress she has made so far
She also brought in her finished quilt called "Crow's Understory" or "Postcard from Keppoch"
And here is her pieced back
Cathy brought in a fun bundle of Modern FQ's
And a scrappy quilt, using lots of strings called" Roll, Roll Cotton Boll" a Bonnie Hunter pattern
Susan had lots to show us...Here's a fun baby quilt...
And a bright and sunny applique quilt
With a fun pieced back
She also showed us an example of how trends come back around, this handy carry all bag has curves just like we are seeing in so many quilts and projects today
This piece had some very interesting piecing techniques, that gave the illusion of motion
And lastly her idea for using orphan blocks to make placemats for Meals on Wheels
Heather brought in her 3D pinwheel quilt, she found the pattern in the Make Modern magazine by an Australian Artist named Serena Edwards, check out her blog here http://sewgiving.blogspot.ca/
And a close up of the quilting done with a walking foot on her domestic machine. Great Job! Perfect circles.
