PEI Modern Quilt Guild February 2019 Meeting

Heather J. welcomed 16 members to the February PEI Modern Quilt Guild meeting.  Cathy and Heather discussed their recent trip to Nashville. QuiltCon 2019 was an amazing experience especially for first timer Cathy. Stay tuned for a QuiltCon exclusive blogpost in the coming weeks.

The guild is getting excited for the upcoming Quilt Show being held at the Eptek Art and Culture Centre in Summerside. The PEI Modern Quilt Guild is being featured from April 7th to May 10th. Please consider purchasing a raffle ticket while you are there to support the PEIMQG!

Our first Block Lotto was a success!! We had more than 100 blocks submitted and Janice was the lucky lady who won them all!

Our Next Block Lotto "Raspberry Kiss" blocks are due in April. The pattern can be found on the Members Only Blog and Facebook page for those members not in attendance.

The Medley Medallion Quilt Along is now under way. Members who completed Blocks 1 & 2, were eligible for a fabric prize from Quilting B & More, in Charlottetown,  this month's sponsor!!! Congratulations to Velda, and Janet.

Block #2

Here's Cathy demonstrating block 3 & 4, which will be due at the March meeting. The pattern instructions for Medley Medallion can be found in Issues 25-30 of Make Modern magazine.

There was a lot of discussion about our upcoming Retreat. I think its safe to say that those members who can attend are pretty excited for an entire weekend filled with sewing and games and prizes. (Personally, I'm excited about the "not having to cook any meals" part, LOL). Be sure to check back in a few weeks to see what we got up to at the Our Lady of Hope Retreat Centre.

Lastly, we had another excellent Show & Share:

Linda shared this "Downstream" wallhanging featuring some of her batiks, mixed with modern fabrics.

She quilted it using her variegated threads!! Beautiful!!

Maritza had several things to share. She had fun making and quilting this Christmas themed "Log Cabin Table Runner". The double wavy lines of quilting looked fantastic!!

She made this adorable apron. I can't stand it, it's so cute!!!

She also has been busy making reversible bags. Here's her larger zippered tote bag..

And reversed..

And a smaller Lunch bag

also reversed!!! Great job, coming up with the pattern too!!

Janet has had some fun making her nametag. All those Flying geese are paper pieced!!! Insanity!!!  It is so awesome!  I love the charm too!

Janet also shared her "Labyrinth Walk" quilt. This beauty was fun to piece, even though she said the cutting was boring, the results are stunning!!

Roberta shared her "Retro Road Trip" quilt. This whimsical quilt was made using a panel and coordinating fabrics.

She also had several Applique projects from this book:

"Love Lives, Here" wall hanging

"Choose Happy" wall hanging

"Dream Big" pillow

and "Home" pillow. This whole collection is adorable, and looks like a lot of fun!!

Roberta also shared some FQ's from The Quilting B & More. It's great to see our local stores bringing in Modern fabrics!!

Liz had several finishes to share as well.. This sweet "Heart" baby quilt will be perfect for the grand niece on the way.

Her "Connecting Friends" quilt is a Queen Bee quilt started in 2016. Great job finishing it up!!

The backing is perfect too!!

And Liz's "Patchwork City" is amazing. I love the black background and the quilting is perfect!

Jean was able to share the completed PEI Modern Quilt Guild 2019 Raffle Quilt, which she just finished putting the binding, the hanging sleeve and label on. It looks fantastic!! We will begin selling tickets soon for this beautiful quilt, so stay tuned for more details on that.

Cathy and Heather shared some of their goodies from QuiltCon 2019. Here's Heather's:

PEI Modern Quilt Guild February 2019 Sew-In

February is the month of LOVE.That might be because it is also one of the coldest times of the year. On Prince Edward Island (and across Canada), it has been absolutely frigid!! What's the best way to stay warm?? Perhaps a snuggle under a warm and cozy quilt, or getting to spend a work day sewing, because of a Snow Day!! The members of the PEIMQG didn't  need a Snow Day to get together and sew. We had 10 members gather on this rainy Saturday to work on an assortment of projects.

Velda was making these fun curvy blocks, made from leftovers, and scraps from other projects!!

Jean is planning her "Scrap Lattice" quilt,  a great design for using up her blue scraps.

Janice was making great progress with her "Medley Medallion" Blocks. I love these colors! So fresh!

Heather was busy making kits for the Spring Retreat. Members can take a break from their own projects to whip up a fun improv style block.

Dianne was up to her elbows in her scrap bins!! Cutting 2 1/2" strips for a Jelly Roll Race, and setting aside smaller pieces for her "String X" quilt.

Linda was putting the finishing touches on her "Down Stream" wall hanging.  I look forward to seeing it at this month's Show & Share.

Cathy had finished her "Variegated threads" blocks and with  Linda's help, came up with a fun layout. Hopefully a finished top will be shared soon.

Janet is still having fun with her "Scrap Vortex" project. With lots of fabric scraps from friends, this quilt will combine new, with old for a stunning finished project.

Liz dropped by before lunch to hand over our 2019 Raffle Quilt. The semi- Custom quilting is gorgeous!! Next up Jean will be adding the binding. Tickets will be available soon, so stay tuned!!

After Lunch, Roberta joined the group, to cut fabric for her " Earth Rhythms " quilt.

and Leigh Anne was able to come and work on her Improv Trees. I love, love, love those Ombre fabrics!!

What a great Sew-In!! We had an excellent turn out and it's always so much fun to get together with these ladies, to sew, and chat, and laugh the day away....
