PEI Modern Quilt Guild May 2018 Sew- In

The May Sew-In for the PEI MQG was rescheduled to this past weekend. We had a small group of sewers and a few visitors throughout the day.

Dianne is continuing her work on the bargello quilt. She is making great progress!! I can't wait to see it finished.

Lucinda was working on her PEIMQG Mystery Quilt-Along. She wanted to come up with a unique modern layout. It is going to be fantastic!!

Janice was cutting up fabrics for her "Bjorn Bear" Quilt. I love Elizabeth Hartman patterns. This one is going to be so sweet.

Roberta was making Magic "Hot dog" pillowcases. She had some really cute ones too.

Jean was working on Needle Punch.

Cathy was working on her "variegated Threads" quilt. Although she spent more time gabbing than actually sewing.

Heather was working on her plan for the QuiltCon 2019 Charity challenge.

Janet was working on binding this bright quilt.

She also spent some time on her Grandmother's Flower Garden project.

Linda, and Brenda stopped in for a visit, and a chat in the afternoon. We spent a lovely Saturday among friends. Summer is just around the corner, and some of us will be away, but its always nice to get together, when we can.

PEI Modern Quilt Guild May 2018 Monthly Meeting

This month the PEI Modern Quilt Guild was welcomed by Vice President Colleen, as our President has been traveling a fair bit and was in Newfoundland.

Colleen welcomed 15 members to the meeting, Julea and Brenda being our newest. We also had guest Kathryn in attendance.

It's not too late to sign up for the Cheryl Arkison workshops and trunkshow. Please contact the PEIMQG for any questions or to book your space.

For Program this month, Roberta demonstrated  "Prairie Points". She shared a special ruler that makes pressing perfect points a breeze. She also gave a tutorial for making a cute hot pad/trivet.

The members were asked to bring in any projects featuring Prairie Points. Roberta had 2 examples from the 1940's. Her mother made both of these beauties using fabrics from a dressmaker friend.

Liz had this cute bag with a Prairie Point trim.

Linda shared this vibrant quilt using a technique she found while researching on the internet.

The PEIMQG Mystery Quilt-Along is coming to a close and members were asked to bring in their completed projects.

Here is Liz's completed quilt. Her choice for quilting was perfect for the negative space.

Velda used her 4 blocks and made this colorful table runner.

Dawn and Colleen worked together to finish this vibrant quilt. Colleen used a fireworks design in the quilting, with metallic thread. Just awesome!!

Janice made this lovely modern version, although she added 1 more block for symmetry.

Here's a close-up of the quilting, using her domestic machine.

Here's the back, which she made using the leftover scraps from all the clues. How clever!! Her quilt is truly reversible, depending on her mood.

Linda's example showcased the block using a rich background. She also altered the corners so that "leaves" appeared at the base of the tulips in the corners.

Jean's interpretation of the modern version is lovely. Her text fabric adds texture to the background, giving her quilt a richness, that I really love.

Cathy shared her 2 quilts. The original inspiration for the Quilt-Along with the added border to finish off the tulips around the perimeter.

Her Modern Version, showcasing asymmetry and lots of negative space was quilted using her domestic machine.

Lastly Roberta shared her super snuggly pillow. Her interpretation of the design used 1 block in this adorable pillow. Great job!

I have been truly pleased and impressed with all the imagination and enthusiasm regarding this Mystery Quilt-Along. Thank you to everyone who has participated.

Last up for the evening ...

Show & Share

New member Julea, shared this gorgeous Blue & White quilt, which she free motion quilted on her domestic machine. She had a lot of fun with all kinds of designs.

Here is the pieced back.

She also shared this Jumbo Storm at Sea quilt. Which she is hand quilting using big stitches. Once completed it will be a gift for her daughter.

Cathy shared this Tulip quilt which will be a featured tutorial on the Modabakeshop in the coming weeks.

Here is the pieced backing. It uses a panel and a couple more of the blocks featured on the front.

Roberta shared this "Let's Sail Away" wall hanging.

Here's the back.

Her "O Canada" quilt was amazing!! Each block represented a different province or territory.

Jean has been enjoying her needle punch lately. She was able to finish the poppy piece recently and is now working on the super cute "gull in galoshes"!!! She also brought in a couple of other examples of her needle punch to share.

Linda finished her 3D quilt from last October's Paul Leger workshop. It is fantastic!!

Kathryn shared the following 4 pieces of landscape textile art. Her use of fabric is amazing.

Liz has completed a second square bottom bag. I think we all want to make one now!!

New member Brenda brought in her 2 finished "Summer Sampler 2018" blocks. This Quilt-Along is travel inspired and looks like it will be a lot of fun.
