PEI Modern Quilt Guild December 2018 Potluck Party

The Holiday season is here and 2018 is coming to a close. The PEI Modern Quilt Guild always has so much fun at our end of year Potluck Party generously hosted by President Heather J. We had 15 members and 1 guest come together to celebrate the season, eat great food and enjoy spending time with each other.

The morning was spent working on hand sewing projects.

Lucinda demonstrated her technique for making folded star ornaments.

We had a wonderful assortment of food to choose from, and the sweets were delicious!!

After lunch we had an orphan block gift exchange.

Then we played 2 games of Left, Right and Centre. A fun game with 5" squares where the winner takes home the entire pile. This year's winners were Linda..

and Cathy. I guess Liz ended up being a lucky charm after all!!

We also had a wonderful Show & Share...

Dianne shared her recent thrift store find. This little wall hanging was a steal at just $2.00!!

Brenda's Blue "Christmas Glitters" wall hanging was stunning.

and her "Arcade Game" quilt is the perfect gift for her grandson.

Lucinda shared her " Zig Zag" quilt top. Whichever way you turn it, it's fantastic!

Jean has been having fun making "Blingy" bags for her upcoming girl's trip to Paducah.

and her super talented husband made these ruler racks for her birthday!!

Linda shared her "Change" project from the recent Cheryl Arkison workshop. I can't wait to see how she quilts it!

Roberta shared this lovely "Book Nerd" quilt. A gift for her Daughter-in-Law, but perfect for anyone who loves books.

Cathy has been busy making aprons for her family's "Christmas Baking Day" Here is 1 of the 5 she made this year.

Heather shared her "Throwing" quilt using the beautiful Zen Chic fabrics. The machine quilting by Colleen was perfect too.

It's hard to choose which side is best.

She also took the opportunity to show the completed "President's Challenge" quilt. Members of the PEI Modern Quilt Guild were challenged to create a "Nautical" themed block using Kona Regal as a constant .The quilt turned out amazing and the custom quilting done by Blueberry Cove was perfect.

I think everyone had an amazing time and I know I speak for everyone when I extend huge thanks and gratitude to Heather for hosting.

On behalf of the PEI Modern Quilt Guild , We hope you have very Happy Holidays, and all the best for the New Year!!

2018 is winding down for the PEI Modern Quilt Guild. We had 13 members and 1 guest attend our last official meeting of the year. So glad you could join us Sherri!!

Heather opened the meeting with a few announcements...
Upcoming elections are pending for the Executive and officers of the PEI Modern Quilt Guild. Any guild members interested in holding a position are asked to send an email to peimqg@gmail.com stating the position desired.

Our QuiltCon charity quilt challenge 2019 is nearing completion. It is with Colleen, one of our talented Long Armers, waiting to be quilted and bound. We are so excited to see it finished.

We are also looking forward to our Spring 2019 Retreat taking place at "Our Lady of Hope" March 8 -10th. Heather shared the Cheryl Arkison pattern "Lilla", which will be featured at the retreat as a block challenge to members who want to play along.

The PEIMQG sold raffle tickets for this lovely quilt in 2018. We drew the winner during the meeting and..... Cindy G. was the lucky winner!!! A huge thank you to the members who helped complete this fun quilt, to Velda the super talented designer and to everyone who purchased tickets. We really appreciate it.

Cathy presented her Medley Medallion quilt to the group. The PEIMQG will be participating in a Skill building Quilt-Along in 2019. If you are interested in the Medley Medallion quilt, the patterns are being published in Make Modern  magazine, beginning with the current issue 25 and every other month for six issues. It should be so much fun, I can't wait to see what our members come up with!!

Next up was our Color of The Year (COTY) Mug Rug Swap. The PEI Modern Quilt guild had a lot of fun swapping mug rugs with the Renfrew County Modern Quilt Guild. We absolutely loved all the mug rugs we received. What a bunch of talented quilters!!

It's not to late to start working on your PEIMQG "Block Lotto" blocks (due in February). Make as many blocks as you want to have more chances to win them all!!! Here are some of Velda's:
