April Meeting 2016

We had a great meeting this month, with 4 guests and 12 members attending. Two of our guests became our newest members- Welcome to Gill and Janice!!

We started the meeting with a trunk show of beautiful work from Studio Art Quilts Associates (SAQA ). There were 51 pieces of work(7"x10")which we passed around the group. Heather gave a brief introduction to SAQA and shared some info about Canadian SAQA members. We talked about the books and magazines included in the trunk show. There was much oohing and aahing as people looked closely at these art works. Interestingly, the majority of the group enjoyed the representational pieces the most. So many techniques and materials were used  for these beauties, I bet we see some inspiration in our future projects.  If you are interested in learning more about SAQA please visit their website http://www.saqa.com/.

We discussed our ongoing charity projects, with some people bringing in their placemats for Meals on Wheels (which are due in June).

Here are Jean's: Improv and straight line quilted.

The improv blocks for our Charity quilt project are coming together and it looks like we have enough to make more than one!!!

Queen Bee Dawn received her blocks from beemates during this meeting. Her wonky Churn Dash blocks in complimentary  was a great exercise in color theory. Aren't they awesome. Anyone still needing to get their blocks to Dawn can bring them to the may sew-in or meeting.

We also started a new Queen Bee program and an amazing 10 people are signed up. I will post this info to a Tab once I receive it.

April's Queen Bee Heather brought in these examples of her requested blocks for beemates to make using black on white, white on black for the centre fabric and One  of the following colors( Fuchsia, Teal,or Golden Yellow).

The link for instructions can be found here: http://www.blossomheartquilts.com/2015/01/bee-hive-tic-tac-toe/ . This is a great website with lots of modern blocks for anyone still needing a block for their turn as Queen Bee.
